Make Up Talk: Vintage Make Up

Celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge had posted a series of videos on "Vintage Make Up" and I love it, it is so interesting and very educational. Makeup has evolved so much since then and us too have evolved with it. I think Makeup is an important part of me not just for vanity but on days when I am not feeling 100% I just put on some makeup and it will instantly uplift me. I believe every woman can agree to that. Learning a lot from Lisa's videos I was not even aware of all the unique powder compacts or lipsticks beauty companies used to release back in the days,it really shows me that beauty was such a big thing for women that even their compacts came in amazing designs with metallic casings, mostly today all of the cosmetics comes in glass bottles for foundations and plastic for powders. They did put alot of effort into their designs, its amazing really.

Madeleine Marsh spoke about all the different powder compacts that was available back from the Victorian times through to the present time. She spoke about other things like what it was like back then for women during the Victorian times when women were not allowed to wear make up, so instead they would play up with their hair, big big hair became so popular back in the era and no make up, they would use a lot of hair extensions to achieve that big hair so fashionable then. I guess women just can't help but beautify themselves, it is just part of being a woman.
I also found out that make up or cosmetics was not available or sold during the war because they could not get the raw materials to make them. Plus, women were doing mens work while the men went to war. So they started making camouflage make up instead for the soldiers. I am so excited and interested that I will go buy this book, pronto!

Thank you Lisa for the wonderful videos I have learnt alot from them, specially your tutorials.
You are one of my favourite makeup artist and an inspiration.
